Is it safe for me to start the classes?

The 'Pilates catalogue' has a good mix of easy, intermediate and advanced level classes, so choose the right level for you, based upon the classes you were recently attending at our clinics. If you are experiencing pain during or after the class, please stop immediately as the level of class for your particular strength or injury may be too high. There are refresher and beginners foundation lessons which can be attended online to relearn correct postural form and strategies to support your postures and bodies. You can always contact us for assessment and advice targeted for you.

I have never done your classes before. How can I get started?

We would love you to be a part of our online class community! As physiotherapists, we do feel that you are in safe hands with our online classes as they are slow and highly structured with more than the average instruction. However, we strongly recommend that if you are brand new to exercise, or have been suffering from an injury or chronic condition, that you consult with your physiotherapist or doctor before beginning our online class programs. You should be in good physical and medical condition and be able to participate in the exercise.

I am pregnant, so is it safe for me to just start your classes?

As pregnancy is a forever changing and challenging time on your body and health, you must consult with your doctor before beginning with our online class programs. Your treating GP or Obstetrician for this pregnancy should clear you for exercise by stating that there is no evidence which indicates a pre-existing condition, medical diagnosis or other issue related to your pregnancy which would cause you to be incapable of, or unsuitable for participation in pregnancy classes. The Fix Program strongly urges that you DO NOT commence classes until this clearance has been granted and that if you engage in this exercise, you agree that you do so at your own risk.

I have just had a baby. When can I get started with exercise again?

Pregnancies and birth outcomes can vary considerably from mother to mother. For this reason, you must consult with your treating GP or Obstetrician before beginning our online class programs after having your baby. It is recommended that you wait at least 6 weeks after your birth before embarking on exercise, giving yourself time to heal. Walking with baby and the pram is enough up until this point in time. There must be medical clearance that there is no evidence which indicates a pre-existing condition, medical diagnosis or other issue related to your early post natal period which would cause you to be unsuitable for participation in our classes, even with their slow and safe approach. The Fix Program strongly urges that you DO NOT commence classes until this clearance has been granted and that if you engage in this exercise, you agree that you do so at your own risk.

It is strongly recommended by The Fix Program that every woman having given birth should see a women's health (pelvic floor) physiotherapist. This is no matter whether you gave birth via a vaginal and Caesarean labour. She will assess your current pelvic floor strength, scarring, coordination and control, and she will also assess for prolapse and any other concerns with your pelvis. She is the best one to give you individualized targeted cues and exercise to work with and these you will also use within your classes online with The Fix Program. She will guide you through the right levels of exercise to stay safe. Working together, you will have the best outcomes for your posture, abdominal diastasis ( separation) and pelvic floor.
